Paying for care — let’s make the money side straightforward

Paying for care

Clear, honest information about costs and funding routes.

We know that the cost of care is one of the biggest worries families bring to us. It sits alongside the emotional weight of the decision, and often on top of it. This page lays out — clearly and honestly — how people pay for care with us, what it typically covers, and who to talk to if you’re not sure where you stand.

The first step is always a free, no-obligation home assessment. We come to you, we listen, and we tell you honestly what your options are. There’s no charge, no hard sell, and no follow-up pressure.

1What we charge

Our hourly rate starts from £26.12 per hour. The exact rate depends on the kind of care needed, the time of day, and where you live across Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees. Rather than quote a single headline price that doesn’t fit most situations, we provide a written, bespoke quote after your free home assessment.

Typical things that affect the cost:

  • Length of visit (short calls vs. live-in or night sits)
  • Number of carers required (one or two)
  • Specialist needs — for example dementia care, complex children’s care, or end-of-life support
  • Time of day — evenings, weekends and bank holidays are charged differently
  • Travel — most of our clients are inside our core area, but we travel further for the right fit

2Self-funded

You pay us directly. Simplest route. We invoice monthly by bank transfer.

3Direct Payments

If the Local Authority has assessed you as eligible for social care support, you can receive a Direct Payment from the council and choose your own provider — that can be us. Direct Payments give you control over who provides your care and when. We’re an approved provider for Direct Payment clients in Bradford and Kirklees. If you live in Calderdale and want to use a Direct Payment, speak to us — we can talk you through the options.

4Personal Budget

Similar to a Direct Payment, but managed by the Local Authority or a brokerage on your behalf. We can work with this arrangement — speak to your social worker or care coordinator about nominating us.

5NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC)

If the person’s primary need is a health need rather than a social care need, they may be eligible for fully-funded care paid by the NHS. This is usually arranged via a CHC assessment coordinated by the local Integrated Care Board. We accept CHC-funded packages for both adults and children — speak to the CHC team at your ICB or ask us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

6Personal Health Budget (PHB)

A notional budget held by the NHS that you direct towards your chosen provider. Increasingly common for complex children’s care and for people with long-term conditions. We’re familiar with how PHBs work.

7Council-commissioned packages

We hold framework contracts with Bradford and Kirklees councils. If the Local Authority has arranged your care and nominated us, the council pays us directly — you don’t need to handle the money side at all.

8What’s included in our fee

  • The time your carer is with you or your loved one
  • Their training, DBS check, uniform, insurance and supervision
  • 24/7 on-call support — a real person, not a voicemail
  • Your care plan, reviews and adjustments as needs change

Our fees don’t cover:

  • Groceries, medications, or anything we buy for you on your behalf (we pass these through at cost with receipts)
  • Longer-distance travel outside our core area (agreed in advance)
  • Activities or outings your carer accompanies you to where there’s a paid entry — we don’t mark these up

9Who to talk to before committing

If you don’t know whether you’d be eligible for Local Authority or NHS funding, these are the right first calls:

  • Bradford — Bradford Council Adult Social Care: 01274 431000
  • Calderdale — Gateway to Care (Calderdale Council): 01422 393000
  • Kirklees — Gateway to Care (Kirklees Council): 01484 414933

They’ll arrange a needs assessment and a financial assessment — both free — and tell you what help you’re entitled to. We’re happy to help you navigate this.

10Our promise on money

  • No hidden fees. Every charge is itemised on your invoice.
  • No ties. We don’t lock you into long contracts.
  • No upselling. We don’t push services you don’t need.
  • Transparency. If you ever want a written breakdown of where your money is going, ask.
