Safeguarding — everyone in our care has the right to be safe

Safeguarding

Everyone in our care has the right to be safe.

Safeguarding is the most important thing we do. Every adult and every child we support has the right to live free from abuse, neglect and harm. This page explains our commitment, how our team is trained, and — if you ever have a concern about someone in our care or anyone else’s — exactly how to raise it. We will always take concerns seriously.

1Our commitment

Semper Care is registered with the Care Quality Commission and regulated under the Health and Social Care Act 2008. We follow the six principles of the Care Act 2014: empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnership and accountability. Safeguarding is built into how we recruit, train, supervise and support our team — it isn’t a policy sitting in a drawer.

We’re members of the Homecare Association (formerly UKHCA) and the Bradford Care Association, and our workforce development is registered with Skills for Care.

2How our team is trained

Every member of our care team is DBS-checked at enhanced level before starting work, and every carer completes a comprehensive induction covering all the competencies required by the CQC and Skills for Care — including safeguarding, duty of care, equality and diversity, privacy and dignity, communication, the Mental Capacity Act, dementia awareness and challenging behaviour.

Core training is delivered through two routes: online via the Access training platform, and in-house by our senior team.

In-house training covers:

  • Safety (physical) intervention — supporting adults and children with challenging behaviour safely and respectfully
  • Moving and handling
  • First aid
  • Medication administration

Additional specialist training, delivered online via Access (and in-house for epilepsy, where specialist trainers attend):

  • Dementia care
  • Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Autism awareness and support
  • PEG / gastrostomy care
  • Epilepsy awareness and response

Every carer also receives monthly supervision with a senior team member covering both cases and wellbeing, and quarterly team meetings where we review learning from any concerns, near-misses, or changes in guidance.
